Have you already studied counselling theory but lack the practical skills to be accepted onto a Level 4 counselling course? If so, our practical skills conversion course is perfect for you! Attending will provide you with a CPCAB Level 3 qualification, allowing you to progress onto one of our Level 4 programmes in super-quick time.
Our Conversion Course is specifically designed for:
- Students with a Level 3 qualification or equivalent, which focused on counselling theory without a practical component, e.g. an online programme.
- Graduates with degrees in counselling or psychology who have studied core psychotherapy models like CBT, psychodynamic therapy, and person-centred approaches in theory but haven’t had the chance to put these skills into practice.
This intensive practical course spans 13-day-long sessions over 5 weeks of live online sessions. You’ll gain hands-on experience in essential counselling techniques. This includes practical training in client engagement, session management, and bringing therapy models to life – all within a safe, supportive setting designed for rapid skill-building.
And, beware! Because it’s intensive, it’s not for everyone! It is a full-time course where you’ll be expected to be working every weekday, completing your assessments on the non-teaching days. So please only join if you are fully committed.

This course builds on your existing knowledge and provides you with the practical skills essential for becoming an effective counsellor. With a hands-on, client-centred approach, you’ll gain the tools and confidence needed to support clients in a professional setting and prepare for progression to Level 4 while also gaining your Level 3 qualification in the quickest way possible.
You’ll learn to create a safe and trustworthy space, where clients feel valued and free to open up, building the foundation for a therapeutic relationship. Through mastering active listening techniques – such as paraphrasing, reflecting, and summarising – you’ll help clients feel truly heard and understood.
Refine your ability to ask open-ended questions that encourage clients to explore their thoughts and emotions, fostering self-discovery and insight. Develop genuine empathy and unconditional positive regard, ensuring your clients feel accepted and supported without judgement.
Expand your non-verbal communication skills to interpret body language and unspoken emotions, enabling you to respond with sensitivity. You’ll also guide clients in recognising and expressing complex emotions, helping them process their feelings more effectively.
The course emphasises the importance of setting professional boundaries to maintain a safe and ethical environment. You’ll grow more confident in using therapeutic silence, offering clients space to reflect and share at their own pace. Gain expertise in recognising and managing resistance, working collaboratively with clients to overcome reluctance or defensiveness.
Finally, you’ll learn how to facilitate deeper self-exploration practically, supporting clients as they examine their values, thoughts, and experiences. Each skill is taught through practical application, ensuring you leave the course ready to take on client work for your level 4 qualification with confidence and competence.
Oh, and yes, you’ll also revise all the key counselling theory and techniques needed to pass the Level 3 assessment process. Hopefully you’ll already have much of this knowledge already, but we’ll make sure to fill in all the gaps!

How our course works!
The great thing about this course is that it makes you eligible for your CPCAB Level 4 course in record time!
Our L4 CPCAB courses are formally recognised by BACP (the UK’s leading counselling membership body), so the 90 guided learning hours you pick up on this course will count towards the 450 minimum hours of training required for membership. Membership of an organisation like BACP (or equivalent body) is vital if you wish to become a respected counsellor and work for organisations such as the NHS.
Before the course begins, you’ll need to provide evidence of your prior counselling experience as part of the application process. You’ll also have a short interview to assess your counselling knowledge from previous courses. This ensures that everyone in your cohort starts on an equal footing, with a similar level of educational and practical background.
To pass the course, you have to prove your practical counselling abilities based on the theory you’ve previously learnt. This is primarily assessed as you progress through the course – the tutor will gain evidence by observing you demonstrating your skills, awareness and knowledge in practical exercises and sessions.

Meet Rachel – the Course Tutor!
Rachel Eastop
Rachel is a highly experienced counselling psychotherapist, clinical supervisor, and tutor with over 30 years of experience in mental health, training, and professional development. She is an accredited member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and holds an MA in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy as well as a Diploma in Training and Development.
Rachel has worked extensively in counselling, supervision, and education, specialising in child and adolescent mental health. In 2008, she founded Headroom, a charity providing specialised counselling for disadvantaged young people facing emotional and psychological challenges. She has also contributed to the BACP Children & Families Journal and teaches a range of counselling courses at Astranti Connect.
As an experienced tutor, Rachel is passionate about teaching and mentoring aspiring counsellors. She creates a supportive and engaging learning environment, ensuring students gain the practical skills and confidence needed to not only pass their qualifications but become exceptional counsellors.
