More about our course content…

At the heart of our curriculum lies the Person-Centred approach, a cornerstone of modern counselling philosophy pioneered by Carl Rogers. In your first year, we delve deep into the principles and techniques of Person-Centred Counselling, exploring its core concepts such as empathy, unconditional positive regard, and congruence. Through experiential learning and reflective practice, you will cultivate the foundational skills necessary to establish authentic connections and foster genuine client-centered relationships.

As you progress into your second year, our curriculum expands to encompass a broader spectrum of therapeutic modalities.

You will be introduced to influential approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic, Gestalt, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Coaching and Solution-focused therapy. Each model will be carefully unpacked, allowing you to grasp its underlying theory, techniques, and applications. The aim is to give you a overview of many of the key therapeutic approaches to allow you to go on to learn more about those that fit best with your own approach and personality post-qualification.

Our emphasis goes beyond mere theoretical understanding. We believe in the power of integration – the art of synthesising various therapeutic modalities within a Person-Centred framework. Through interactive workshops, case studies, and supervised practice, you will learn how to seamlessly blend different approaches to tailor your interventions according to the unique needs and preferences of each client.

Ultimately, our goal is to empower you with the skills and insights to facilitate meaningful change and growth in the lives of others. Whether you aspire to work in clinical settings, community outreach programs, or private practice, our course provides a solid foundation and a nurturing environment for your professional development. Join us on this enriching journey as we explore the dynamic intersection of theory, practice, and personal transformation in the field of counselling.

How you’ll earn your qualification

The great thing about undertaking a CPCAB course is that it’s recognised nationally and focused on helping you become the best counsellor you can be!

CPCAB courses are formally recognised by BACP (the UK’s leading counselling membership body) and the NCPS (The National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society), so the 420 formal learning hours you pick up on this course will count towards the 450 minimum hours of training required for membership. Membership of an organisation like BACP (or equivalent body) is vital if you wish to become a respected counsellor and work for organisations such as the NHS.

To pass the course, you have to prove competence in a variety of key counselling skills. This is primarily assessed through coursework alongside tutor observation as you progress through the course – the tutor will gain evidence through observing you as you undertake counselling sessions. In addition, you will need to provide records of peer feedback, evidence of personal therapy and reports from supervisors.

You will also need practical counselling experience in order to achieve your diploma but don’t worry; we’re here to help. We understand finding placements can be challenging. That’s why we have created relationships with many counselling practices to help you find a placement that’s right for you. So that’s one less thing to worry about!

Finally, at the end of the course, you will also need to hand in your coursework documents. These include client case studies, a learning review, a self-review, case presentations, client & supervision records, two assignment and a report from your placement. This will then be reviewed and assessed by CPCAB.

You will obtain your qualification and automatically be enrolled into the BACP’s register of members after you have demonstrated your competence, passed your assessments, and completed your required practice hours.
